I am always drawn to very painterly, almost impressionistic landscapes as I believe they have a transportative quality to them, and I love when many are layered together on a wall.
Engquist was a prominent Swedish painter recognized for his mastery of atmospheric landscapes, and his exceptional handling of light is no coincidence. He studied under Bruno Liljefors, one of Sweden's most legendary wildlife and wilderness artists. From Liljefors, Engquist inherited a brilliant eye for natural accuracy combined with a soft, impressionistic touch.
